Real-time wildfire mapping from helicopters: Vertical Mag profiles VoxVision
Vertical Mag's April 2026 feature explores Voxelis's aviation roots, onboard computing, and operator-led development for wildfire missions.
Brent Bundy at Vertical Mag spent time with the team for a feature on VoxVision: “AI in the Sky: Voxelis brings real-time wildfire mapping to helicopters”, published April 22, 2026.
The feature traces Voxelis’s roots in helicopter operations and manufacturing, and explores the idea of collecting mission intelligence from aircraft already doing the flying work. It covers the combination of sensing, onboard computing, and operator input that shapes VoxVision’s development.
Vertical also reports on Contour Helicopters’ early adoption and plans for additional units, alongside Custom Helicopters and Aerotech’s participation in the Early Customer Adoption Program. Those plans reflect the reporting at the time of publication.
For current capabilities, see VoxVision and our wildfire workflows. Fire detection, mapped extent, temperature estimates and exports are available today. Live streaming, ground gimbal control and near real-time delivery require high-speed internet, which is not included. Planned safety and mission capabilities are identified separately in the upgrade path.
